How It Works
- 1
Add cities
Search for a city or timezone and add it to your dashboard. Your local timezone is detected and displayed automatically.
- 2
Compare times
View the current time, date, and UTC offset for each city side by side. DST status is indicated on each card.
- 3
Customize your dashboard
Reorder, remove, or add cities as needed. Your selections are saved in the URL so you can bookmark or share your custom world clock.
Understanding World Clocks and Time Zones
The World Clock shows the current local time for the cities and timezones you care about. Add cities, compare them side by side, and see the date, UTC offset, and current DST status on each card. The clock uses the browser's Intl timezone data, which comes from IANA rules, so offsets update correctly during DST changes instead of going stale like a static table. It also supports half-hour and quarter-hour offsets, including India at UTC+5:30, Nepal at UTC+5:45, and the Chatham Islands at UTC+12:45.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does the world clock update?
The displayed times update every second using your device's system clock and the JavaScript Intl API, which resolves IANA timezone rules locally. No server round-trip is needed, so times are always current.
Does the world clock show Daylight Saving Time status?
Yes. Each city card indicates whether DST is currently active and shows the effective UTC offset. When a DST transition occurs, the offset updates automatically.
Why do some timezones have half-hour or quarter-hour offsets?
A few regions adopted non-standard offsets for historical, geographic, or political reasons. India uses UTC+5:30, Nepal uses UTC+5:45, and the Chatham Islands use UTC+12:45. Our world clock supports all of these.
Can I share my custom world clock with someone else?
Yes. Your selected cities are encoded in the page URL. Copy the URL and the recipient will see the same city dashboard.
